History of Colombia
Like many other countries, Colombia has a lot of events that lead to the formation of the country that they are today. There are some important events that I think are important to touch on. First would be the Battle of Boyaca, during which Colombia was fighting for their independence from Spain. The Colombian side only suffered 66 death and injuries while the Spanish lost 250 men and 1,600 were captured (militaryhistory.about.com). Next, would be the separation from Panama. I think that this is an important event because this separation is what led to the modern day land of Colombia. One of the most important events in Colombia's history to date would be the promulgation of the Constitution in 1991. This is important because this is the most recent form of the Constitution in Colombia to date. The final event that I thought was important was Operation Jaque. This was a mission the Colombia government was able to complete with no split blood or a single shot fired. This was a hostage mission where the Colombian army was able to get 15 hostages out alive. This is something that shows how powerful the Colombian government has become.
