The way that I think the issues of biodiversity are related to the idea of threats to cultural diversity is that biodiversity is about the diversity around you in all life forms and cultural diversity is about how one culture differs from another. I believe that the relationship between these two things is that there as biodiversity goes down, so does cultural diversity. The things that make a lot of places unique in this world have to do with the biodiversity. Look at Australia for example. Nearly 60 percent of the tourist coming to Australia report that they are going to do something with in the outdoors that they can't find anywhere else in the world. This is something that a lot of the native people live off of and makes them want to pass down the traditions of their unique native land. However, as these things that make places so unique start to disappear, so do the people that care about passing it down. This is something that could have a very large impact on the cultural diversity of a place because without those things that make them unique, they will begin to form into the norm of other societies and completely lose what makes them special.
My opinion on weather or not the government should be actively involved in protecting cultural diversity is an if-y one. I would say that the government should do things to help support cultural diversity through funding but I don't think that they should be trying to maintain it with legislation. When the government starts trying to save cultural diversity with legislation is the moment that people will start to feel like it is being forced upon them and then they become more resistant. The government should be doing things like funding national parks, creating museums, or even just making sure that no more of the history of the country is taken away. I believe that people would like to see that the natural history of their country is being put in the budget but isn't being forced upon them.
Some people might say, however, they they would like to see the government writing legislation and being very involved with the cultural diversity of their country. I can see why they would want this because then the government officials that they elected to office are going to be the ones fighting for the things that they want to be done. I think that it would be better if then government were to just fund the cultural diversity problem so that the people that are really concerned about conserving it can. Whenever the government gets involved in a situation, I feel that it becomes stickier than it needs to be. I think that this is something that each country needs to handle on their own because every circumstance is different.
